VDOT-GIS Analyst

 VDOT Transportation and Mobility Planning Division is seeking a highly skilled and motivated transportation planning GIS analyst. This position will be involved with providing products requested for many transportation planning initiatives.  These include the State Highway Plan, State Surface Transportation Plan, Travel Demand Model Networks and overall transportation systems analysis, etc.

Junior Software Developer Position, Stafford, VA & Fort Belvoir

MTEQ, Inc. is seeking an exceptional software engineer/developer who specializes in web services and service oriented architectures (SOAs) to serve as a key member of our software development team. Primary responsibilities will be the design, development, and testing of cross platform applications. A successful candidate will be responsible for developing software in an Agile development environment utilizing WSDLs (Web Services Description Language) and XSDs (XML Schema Definition) along with graphical user interfaces (GUI) to facilitate bidirectional communication between disparate systems. Candidates must be able to communicate effectively with clients and be attentive to customer satisfaction and will be required to work closely with hardware and systems engineers in a small-team environment.

Required Skills
  • 1 - 3 years experience developing software in C++, C# and/or Java for actual projects (i.e., not academic)
  • Proficiency in designing, developing and troubleshooting Web Services based solutions utilizing WSDLs and XSDs
  • Proficiency in designing and developing GUIs
  • Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Must be willing to follow and refine a formal software development process
  • B.S. in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or applicable engineering or science field
Desired Skills
  • Experience in object oriented programming
  • Development of Web-based applications
  • Cross platform (Linux, Windows) software development experience
  • Excellent understanding of IP networking protocols

GISCorps: Looking for Remote Sensing Specialist

GISCorps is looking for remote sensing specialists for Mega Storm Sandy.  This project is in collaboration with the International Charter "Space and Major Disasters" (http://www.disasterscharter.org/).

The desired candidates must have considerable expertise in working with TerraSAR-X imagery and conduction analysis related to TerraSAR-X.   The analysis includes measuring the extent of the flood (pooling of water), depth of water, and conducting change detection from TerraSAR-X taken at various stages of the storm and producing shape files from areas of change.

Time: can start immediately for 1-2 weeks and 3-5 hours a day.

GIS Intern with Veterans Affairs

The Dept of Veterans Affairs, the office of Emergency Management is looking for an intern for the fall, 2012 to work for 40 hours a week

Preferred: a graduate GIS student or finished a MA in GIS with demonstrated knowledge and skills in ESRI's ArcInfo using Model Builder, with the ability to write software code and scripts to automate the models and with knowledge of ArcGIS Server to build and publish an interactive web mapping tools and services.  Must also have knowledge of geodatabase design and development, and to include data schema, data modeling, and logical data models.
(competency in ArcGIS Server, ArcInfo, Python, Flash Builder, C++, Java, Java Script, Spatial Analyst, GIS web development, and  Geodata Management of spatial data).
