POSITION: INTERDISCIPLINARY: Computer Scientist, DB-1550; Physical
Scientist, DB-1301; Cartographer, DB-1370; Geographer, DB-0150, or; General
Engineer, DB-0801. Grade 02

Position Location: Topographic Engineering Center, Alexandria, VA

Starting Salary: $39,330 -$75,669 per annum [NOTE; Salary range will be
higher after the 4 Jan 2009 General Schedule rate increases become effective]

Duties: Executes research addressing geospatial data using geographic
information systems (GIS). Uses geodatabases to implement GIS processes for a
wide range of applications involving multisource geospatial data. Uses XML,
ArcObjects and various other languages for application in solving geospatial
data problems. The incumbent will employ commercial software and best
practices in documenting system's design, interface control, test,
configuration management and user manuals. Experience (educational or
professional) with commercially available GIS and image-processing software
is strongly desired, as is experience in field sampling techniques, and
demonstrated experience in developing and successfully completing a
science-based research project.

Selected candidate will work under direct supervision of a senior scientist
or principal investigator. Tasks will not always be clearly spelled out, as
the individual selected for this position will be working in a research and
development environment wherein new scientific directions are a constant
pursuit. Accordingly, the candidate for this position must possess personnel
characteristics such as creativity, professional patience, integrity, and
perseverance. Participation in professional forums, as well as interaction
with customers, colleagues, and military officers, dictates that the selected
candidate possesses excellent oral and written skills.
