Senior Software Developer with NASA Contractor

Summary: Experienced software developer sought to join the staff of INNOVIM, to work on a project at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (NASA/GSFC) in Greenbelt, MD. The position calls for software development and Web applications experience.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities: Provide programming, web application development and deployment support for an Earth science data project at NASA/GSFC. This work will encompass:
• Develop and implement a Web service and client to provide data archive interrogation, retrieval and processing services.
• Lead deployment and software testing efforts. Support end-user community.
• Support the existing code base and improve current functionality.
• Fix defects associated with the application and potentially prototype new architectural features.
• Interface with network and system administration staff.
• Author technical documentation such as API and user manual.
• Coordinate and lead client status meetings and author status reports.
• Mentor and lead junior engineers
• Conduct configuration management on code, technical documentation and libraries
• Handle the technical aspects of development; implement necessary functionality from a technical specification such as UML.
• Work directly with customers, users, and management to help determine and solve the customer needs in the development of future versions of project objectives.

Required Qualifications Experience:
• Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or related field preferred
• High level of proficiency with Java, SOAP and REST, AXIS, XML. (5+ years)
• Hands-on experience in full software development cycle. (5+ years)
• Experience interfacing with external customer
• Experience with Ant build/deployment scripting is a plus.
• Experience with OGC specifications a plus, such as WMS, WCS, and OpenSearch
• Experience with remote sensing data, technologies a plus
• Experience with Perl or PHP a plus
• Solid grasp of relational database systems such as Postgres, configuring Apache/Tomcat
• Experience with source control tools such as Subversion or CVS
• Experience conducting testing w/ external user community
• Professional skills: ability to work independently and with a team.
• Ability to understand and master new technologies quickly.
• Ability to quickly understand and solve unique and undocumented programming problems.
• Strong desire to learn new technologies
• Must be energetic and self-starting

Cartographic Technician/GIS in Northern VA

Salary Range: $50-75k/year (based on level of experience)
Position Type: Contract to Hire

Client: Our client is a large government integrator in Northern, VA that supports the NGA and other defense clients in the area.

Job Description:

1) Responsible for translating geographic information about the earth's surface and the objects found on it, into a topographical and/or aeronautical map.
2) Compiles geographic data from a variety of sources including satellite imagery, aerial photographs, and existing maps.
3) Works with related GIS software and programs to create and maintain maps that can be combined with geographically referenced data.
4) Meets with users to define data needs, project requirements/required outputs, or to develop applications.
5) Analyzes spatial data for geographic statistics to incorporate into documents and reports.
6) Enters new map data through use of a digitizer or by direct input of coordinate information using the principles of cartography including coordinate systems, longitude, latitude, elevation, topography, and map scales.
7) Works on problems of diverse scope.
8) Acts as advisor to a division or teams within the division and becomes actively involved as required to meet schedules or resolve problems.
9) Contributes to the development of the organization's goals and objectives.

Required Education/Skills:

1) Bachelor's degree in a GIS, Cartography, scientific or equivalent discipline
2) 2+ years of related experience with ArcGIS and cartographic production knowledge of standard DoD products
3) Must have DoD experience/ knowledge and the ability to obtain a US Clearance

GIS Analyst in Chantilly, VA

Job Title: GIS Analyst
Salary: $44-55k/year (negotiable upon level of experience)
Location: Chantilly, VA

Job Description/Tasks:
The GIS Analyst candidate will be responsible for working closely with linguists in the extraction and quality control of data from cartography sources and imagery. They will be doing Quality Control. The GIS Analyst will be using primarily ArcGIS and Geonames database - GNDB, as well as software that is proprietary to our client. This position does not involve GIS editing or topology.

Minimum Qualifications:
1) BS in Geography, environmental science or GIS
2) 1-5 years of GIS experience
3) Must be proficient with ArcGIS and understand excel
4) Must be able to obtain a secret level clearance
5) Must understand placements on imagery
6) Must have strong QC (quality control) attributes
7) Must be detailed oriented
8) Experience with Geonames/ GNDB a huge plus
