The Fairfax County Dept. of Planning and Zoning is seeking an intern to assist in updating its GIS records this fall. The Planning Division is undergoing an analysis of its long-range planning process, and needs to gather, map, and analyze data on past amendments to the Comprehensive Plan. Student Position with USGS
The U.S. Geological Surveys Eastern Geographic Science Center is seeking a student with general background in GIS and web-applications programming to work with a web applications development group in Reston, Virginia. Work will involve assisting in the development of web-based GIS tools for natural hazard mitigation, ecosystem management, sea level rise assessment, and other USGS science activities. Candidates should ideally have javascript coding skills, experience with one or more popular Javascript libraries, and interest in coding web mapping clients (e.g., Google maps API, OpenLayers). Experience with server-side programming would also be beneficial. A general knowledge of GIS principles and experience with GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS) is desirable.
