Student Positions at USGS for the National Map Project (Reston, Virginia)

The project involves working with the USGS National Map to systematically digitize and geo-reference the entire collection of historical topographic maps of the United States that the USGS has produced in its 135 year history.

Required Skills:

The specific skill sets they are looking for are students proficient in working with information technologies and with a moderate comfort level for reading maps and understanding basic cartographic symbology and information.

Wireless Backhaul Engineer (Herndon, Virginia)

CFN is seeking ambitious and self-motivated telecom Metro/Wireless Backhaul Engineers with experience in Wireless Backhaul to support network designs focused on cell tower fiber design, metro fiber design, Metro network architecture and wireless backhaul solutions.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

OSP Backhaul Design:
•Serve as project lead for design of backhaul networks with focus on analyzing data from multiple carrier networks, evaluating potential interconnect points and fiber hub locations, and understanding multi-carrier integration from both a dark and lit fiber point of view.
•Support Professional Services engagements to design metro networks, analyze backhaul options, cultivate vendor partnerships in designing solutions for high backhaul demand.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

•A working knowledge of fiber networks, outside plant, local access transport networks, optical technologies; ILEC, CLEC, and equipment vendors; and LEC collocation and interconnection
•Proficient in ESRI ArcMap or MapInfo GIS software
•An understanding of microwave and RF Engineering concepts but no direct responsibilities for this in this position
•Ability to effectively communicate with customers, vendors and internal teammates via the phone, email and presentations.
•Understanding of the factors that impact network mileage and latency and how to apply in route design
•Maintain hard copy and electronic databases with design options
•Flexibility to perform other duties as assigned
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills
•Proficient in MS Outlook, Excel, Word, Access and PowerPoint
•An action orientation to deliver in a fast-paced corporate venture/start-up environment
•2 to 4 years experience in similar wireless backhaul position desired
