Intern at USGS
Internship opportunity at USGS
The project seeks a student capable of developing within multiple application development environments such as Visual Basic and C# to augment the USGS personnel currently working on the project. The student would work with the project team to develop a 2D stratigraphic cross section correlation interface component that would enable USGS scientists to view and modify stratigraphic unit attributes and immediately see results of the changes in the stratigraphic cross section view.

Duties: Responsible for performing development, analysis, design, coding, testing, verification and validation, and maintenance of custom geospatial desktop and web-based solutions including geospatial databases.
Required skills:
GIS
• 3+ years experience with ESRI 9.x technology with respect to the desktop client
• 2+ years experience with ESRI’s ArcGIS Server (9.x,10.x)REST and SOAP API’s
• Familiarity with Google Earth/KML
Development
• Experience developing traditional SOAP and REST-style HTTP services also highly desirable.

Cartographica Editorial Assistant Position Available in GGS
The Editor of the peer-reviewed, international journal, Cartographica, Dr Waters in GGS is looking for a student editorial assistant.
The primary duties are: 1) to liaise with the publisher (the University of Toronto Press); 2) to contact potential authors in order to solicit manuscripts; 3) to select reviewers to referee manuscripts; 4) to work with authors to improve manuscripts so as to achieve the highest standards of excellence in our published papers.
The funding is for 8 hours per week at $12/hour. Employment would begin as soon as a suitable candidate is found. Ideally this individual would be a graduate student in the GGS Department but GGS undergraduates in their senior year will also be considered.
