The Health Information Systems Specialist is responsible for planning and managing health information systems (HIS) activities for a number of Abt Associates' international health projects, including support under the USAID Health Systems 20/20 Project. The position requires the ability to communicate and work effectively with developing country counterparts-local project teams and institutions-as well as coordinate with donor agencies to achieve results. Knowledge and application of information and communication technologies (ICTs) for better health in low resource settings is critical. The successful candidate will understand the features of a successful HIS and have experience in developing countries with designing, developing, and deploying effective HIS components, standards, and evidence-based ICT solutions at the facility, regional, and national level. Knowledge and use of geographic information systems (GIS) for targeting, planning, budgeting, management decisions in addition to general thematic mapping is required. S/he will be able to integrate health systems strengthening data (e.g., national health accounts, human resources surveys, and governance and operations data) with health indicators, demographics, health resources, and geospatial data to add value to evidence-based decision support.
